Strategy, Change, and Improvement

Strategy Change ImprovementChoose what not to do
A clear and effective strategy strengthens your ideas and articulates how you can move them forward. Understanding and articulating vision and priorities in response to a changing environment assists in mobilising and directing efforts toward the same goals.

Unfortunately for some and perhaps not so much for others, change is a constant for human services organisations. How you adapt is key to your success, sustainability and culture. Change processes, which have a focus on communication, collaboration and accountability have a better chance of success.

Understanding the value of your organisation and its services to the community, individuals, stakeholders and funders are critical to ongoing improvement of your systems and practices. Utilising creative mechanisms to review and evaluate your systems and impact of your services will provide useful direction for how and where to focus your improvements. Choosing the appropriate method of research and analysis often involves a combination of approaches such as one on one interviews, focus groups, surveys, scanning and analysis both of quantitative and qualitative information.

In terms of broad strategy and change, it is nearly almost always better to have some kind of strategy than to not, however unless you are prepared to adapt as circumstances change it is unlikely to do you, your staff, stakeholders or clients, much good.
